Mark James is the quarterback of the football team at the high school. He has black hair and gels it up. His sideburns are "meticulously trimmed" and he has dark eyebrows and eyes. He is a senior.
Mark used to date Sarah and became incredibly jealous the first day that he saw Sarah and John talking. Mark is still not over Sarah and becomes angry with John. He bullies John on the first day of school and continues to until John beats him up. Mark proceeds to make a truce with John and stays out of his way for a while.
Mark showed Henri the video of John saving Sarah from the house fire and flying out the window. Henri then takes Mark with him to school to find John and get him out. This is when the war starts, and Mark helps with defeating the Mogadorians. He also carries John off the field when he is passed out.
At the end of the book, when John is leaving, Mark and him share a friendly conversation. They end on good terms when John leaves Ohio.
