Quotation Analysis #3

"'Thank you for saving my life. I don't care what you are or where you're from. To me you're John, the boy I love.'
'What?'
'I love you, John, and you saved my life, and that's important.'
'I love you too. And I always will.'"
-Conversation between Sarah and John (318).

In the novel, Sarah becomes trapped in a house burning on fire. In order to save her, John uses his fire resistance powers to get her out. After escaping, Sarah asks John as to how he saved her; she also saw him use his telekenesis powers to move support beams. John decides to explain to her that he is an alien and tells her the back story. Afterwards, he expects her to not believe him and run away. Instead, Sarah decides he is telling the truth and confesses he is in love with her. John realizes he reciprocates her feelings and confesses his love to her as well.
John never wanted to tell Sarah (or anyone else) the fact that he was an alien because he thought she would not believe her. The fact that he trusted her enough to open up to her is a symbol of trust and love. Additionally, the fact that he admits his love to her confirms that he trusts Sarah like no other and is deeply in love with her.
